Pet Therapy

Meet Lucy Lew, a five year veteran, certified as an Alliance of Therapy Dog (ATD) ID# 054571. Lucy was adopted from a shelter at 8 weeks old, and has been professionally trained, holding certificates from AKC ‘Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program and Alliance Therapy Dog for four years outstanding performance. Lucy is 7 years old, a 70lb black lab mix and is “smooth as butter”, full of sweetness.

The use of a trained therapy dog in Valerie’s practice has brought many advantages to her and her clients. Firstly, Lucy Lew provides a source of comfort to Valerie’s clients, especially those who may be fearful of talking to a therapist. The presence of a therapy dog can be calming and reassuring and can help to reduce stress and anxiety. The physical presence of a warm and loving animal can also help to create a sense of safety and security, which is especially beneficial to those who may be feeling particularly vulnerable when discussing difficult topics. In addition, the presence of a therapy dog can be a great conversation starter. This can be especially beneficial to those who may find it difficult to open up to a therapist.

Valerie Kline, LCSW, CAP, ICADC, QS has seen the potential of using a trained therapy dog named Lucy Lew in her practice in Okeechobee, Florida. Valerie has found that Lucy Lew has been an amazing addition to her practice and has helped to enhance the overall experience and created comfort for clients. The presence of Lucy Lew encourages clients to talk about their feelings, as well as provide insight into their relationships with their pets, which can be a powerful therapeutic tool.

The use of a therapy dog can also help to create a more positive atmosphere, helping clients often feel more relaxed and more comfortable in the presence of a friendly animal, which can help to reduce feelings of fear or intimidation. Furthermore, the physical touch of a therapy dog can be a form of tactile therapy, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety.

Finally, the use of a therapy dog can also help to reduce distractions within the therapy session. The presence of a therapy dog can make it easier for clients to concentrate and focus on the therapeutic process, as they are less likely to be distracted by their own thoughts or worries.

Lucy Lew can attend your sessions, upon request at no additional cost.
